Trivial Pursuit for Book-Lovers

Children's: What Virginia Lee Burton classic tells the tale of the steam shovel Mary Anne and the construction worker who wouldn't let her retire?

Classics: What was the first E.L. Doctorow novel to hit Broadway as a musical?

Non-Fiction: What Utah-born "Father of Television" is celebrated in books like The Last Lone Inventor and The Boy Genius and the Mogul?

Book Club: What did the Dominican-born Garcia girls lose in the Bronx, in a 1991 Julia Alvarez book title?

Authors: What novelist resurrected a favorite Barbary Lane character for his first chamber music collaboration, Anna Madrigal Remembers?

Book Bag: What onetime spokesman for Coca-Cola and Jell-O penned I Am What I Ate...and I'm frightened?

Children's: Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel -- one of my all time favorites.

Classics: Ragtime, which I keep meaning to read, but haven't yet.

Non-Fiction: I don't know the books, but I think his name was Farnsworth

Book Club: Their accents.

Authors: Tales of the City. Jake Heggie wrote Anna Madrigal Remembers. When I first read the first book, in advance of the much advertised miniseries many years ago, I ended up running back out the same day and buying the rest and read them all back to back without stopping.

Book Bag: I don't know, but since it's Jell-O, I'm going to guess Bill Cosby

Harriet wins the prize for getting every single one right, at least in spirit--she missed the writer's name for Anna Madrigal Remembers, but names another work by the author AND provides the composer's name, so I think she pretty much got it right!

Children's: Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel (also a favorite at my house)

Classics: Ragtime (everyone at the local college knows this because of Doctorow's Kenyon connection)

Non-Fiction: Philo Farnsworth

Book Club: their accents (the title is How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents)

Authors: Armistead Maupin

Book Bag: Bill Cosby
