Children's: What fable does Gail Carson Levine rework in Ella Enchanted, her tale of a girl cursed by a fairy to obey all orders?
Classics: What Richard Brautigan book ends with the line: "P.S. Sorry I forgot to give you the mayonnaise"?
Non-Fiction: What thriller writer often toted hundreds of snails in her handbag, according to Andrew Wilson's 2003 biography, Beautiful Shadow?
Book Club: What author has set several novels in the fictional Texas town of Thalia?
Authors: Who denied coining the term "Generation X," but admitted coming up with "veal-fattening pens" for office cubicles?
Book Bag: What novelist sends his fictional alter ego Gus Bailey to dig up the dirt on society criminals?
Children's: presumably Cinderella, right?
ReplyDeleteClassics: Trout Fishing in America (that line made my sister throw the book across the room)
Authors: Douglas Coupland
Cinderella, but I don't know the rest!
ReplyDeleteAllison got the only two I know.
ReplyDeleteChildren's: The Red Shoes
ReplyDeleteClassics: Trout Fishing in America
Non-fiction: ??? I'm dying to know the answer to this one
Book Club: McMurtry
Authors: Coupland
Book Bag: ?
Oh I know one for once.
ReplyDeleteGen X is Douglas Coupeland.
Sure I have heard the story about the snails, but for some reason all I can think of right now is Bill Bryson's stories about scientists and animals in 'The Short History of Everything'.
Children's: Cinderella
ReplyDeleteThat's all I've got, which is embarrassing.
I know that the first one is Cinderella! I'm always ridiculously pleased with myself when I manage to answer one of your questions. I need to read more. :)
ReplyDeleteChildren's: Cinderella
ReplyDeleteClassics: Trout Fishing in America
Non-Fiction: Patricia Highsmith
Book Club: Larry McMurtry
Authors: Douglas Coupland
Book Bag: Dominick Dunne
So we missed a couple this week. We're not fans of Highsmith or Dunne, at least not enough to get these titles.
Also, can we please giggle for a moment at the designation "classic" for Trout Fishing in America?
I did giggle about that one. I still see some of The Red Shoes in Ella Enchanted. And I should have guessed Dominick Dunne.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I can actually imagine Patricia Highsmith carrying around a bag of snails. What a creepy writer she is.
ReplyDeleteSee, ReadersGuide, we needed you! (And where were you? Consorting with the ivy league!)
