Try Trolley to Yesterday or Mansion in the Mist - the sequels by Strickland are terrific, too.lemminghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06767103318863906140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6000858382516594426.post-81823363705330703822009-11-02T17:46:24.457-05:002009-11-02T17:46:24.457-05:00I liked this one as a kid. I never read spooky books as a kid, and the scariest thing I read before this Bellairs was on Lemming's recommendation, A Candle in her Room.Jeannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01374498643286099244noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6000858382516594426.post-90770941825891570592009-10-30T22:32:14.632-04:002009-10-30T22:32:14.632-04:00This was, hands down, one of my absolute favorite ...This was, hands down, one of my absolute favorite books when I was a kid. I think I read it for the first time when I was about Lewis's age, 10 or so, and then read it half a dozen times or so after that throughout junior high school, along with the two sequels. I bought it as part of a single volume Best of John Bellairs a few years ago, and tried reading it with Unfocused Girl when she had just turned 7, but it was too scary for her.Unfocused Mehttp://theunfocusedlife.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6000858382516594426.post-37245336222728260012009-10-30T12:50:28.568-04:002009-10-30T12:50:28.568-04:00I still need to read this to my kids...I still need to read this to my kids...Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07026099426503180472noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6000858382516594426.post-52504371378646918912009-10-30T12:41:10.342-04:002009-10-30T12:41:10.342-04:00Also, the atmosphere reminded me a little of the G...Also, the atmosphere reminded me a little of the Green Knowe books, which were also kind of creepy. This was one of my brother's favorites. I didn't like it quite as well, but I read it several times anyway. I haven't read it in many years. Perhaps I'll pick it up at the library next go around.Harriet M. I'll bet my creep-out kid would like it too and it might not drive the other two into my bed after reading--always a goal for which to strive.Kristenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07651401312450990123noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6000858382516594426.post-19193359503335421682009-10-30T12:35:01.130-04:002009-10-30T12:35:01.130-04:00Wow.
